Terms of Service
Effective: May 16, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using readtheplan ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
readtheplan provides tools for analyzing Terraform and OpenTofu infrastructure-as-code plans, classifying changes by risk, and generating compliance evidence. The Service is available as:
- OSS (Free): A local-first CLI tool, GitHub Action, and MCP toolchain. No data is transmitted to readtheplan servers.
- Managed (Paid): A hosted platform for team workspaces, policy governance, and compliance reporting.
- Enterprise (Custom): A private-connector deployment for regulated environments.
3. User Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- Ensuring that any infrastructure plans you analyze do not violate applicable laws or third-party rights.
- Not using the Service for any unlawful or abusive purpose.
4. Data Handling
The OSS toolchain processes Terraform plans entirely on your local machine. No raw plan JSON is transmitted to readtheplan servers. The Managed platform stores only metadata: organization and project names, policy configurations, and full signed evidence envelopes. (Evidence envelopes are typically 2–5 KB, containing the risk analysis output, compliance mappings, and cryptographic signature — not raw Terraform plans.) See our Privacy Policy for details.
5. Intellectual Property
The OSS components are licensed under the MIT License. You retain ownership of any plans, configurations, and outputs you generate. readtheplan retains ownership of the Service itself, including its code, branding, and documentation.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. readtheplan does not guarantee that analysis results are error-free or that the Service will be uninterrupted. Infrastructure changes carry inherent risk; always review plans in a staging environment before applying to production.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, readtheplan shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Managed or Enterprise Service for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time. OSS toolchain usage cannot be terminated — it runs locally.
9. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated via email for Managed/Enterprise customers.
